Free cash flow (Baidu total, including iQIYI) was negative RMB 7,954 million, against negative RMB 4,677 million a year earlier, with capital expenditures of RMB 11,390 million against RMB 3,800 million. Why we file it. A Chinese AI company ties fast cloud growth to demand for AI computing.
How we read it. One AI line grew sharply while total revenue and net income fell and cash spending rose.
Why it matters to you: it shows demand for AI computing in China, and the spending that comes with it.
What this doesn't prove
Company figures from the 6-K press release. GPU Cloud is one line within AI Cloud Infra, and the release gives growth rates, not its revenue in yuan. Capital expenditures and free cash flow are Baidu total, including iQIYI (free cash flow excluding iQIYI was negative RMB 8,274 million). Operating cash flow was RMB 3.4 billion, against negative RMB 877 million a year earlier. Net income attributable to Baidu was RMB 2.3 billion, against RMB 7.3 billion a year earlier. The release says total other income fell to RMB 184 million from RMB 4.9 billion, "primarily due to a decrease in fair value gain from long-term holdings and an increase in net foreign exchange loss". Online marketing services revenue fell 19% year over year, to RMB 13.1 billion from RMB 16.2 billion, and Baidu's CEO said "our online marketing business remains under pressure".
