Amazon signs a 20-year nuclear offtake at Calvert Cliffs

On 30 September 2026 Constellation and Amazon announced a 20-year agreement for 690 MW at Maryland’s Calvert Cliffs plant, including about 190 MW of new capacity targeted for 2030–2032.

Constellation and Amazon said on 30 September 2026 that they struck a long-term deal around Maryland’s only nuclear plant, Calvert Cliffs.

Constellation’s release puts the power at 690 MW under a 20-year agreement, including about 190 MW of new generating capacity it says should come online between 2030 and 2032. It also says the agreement enables more than $3 billion of plant and related infrastructure investment, and that the parties signed a related retail supply agreement for Amazon operations across the 13-state PJM market. Calvert Cliffs power keeps flowing to the regional grid.

Amazon’s role is offtaker and retail customer, not a disclosed co-owner of the plant. Kerry Person, AWS’s vice president of global operations and data center delivery, is quoted on carbon-free energy and new generation for the regional grid. The release does not name an Amazon campus megawatt figure or a chip type for this deal.

Why it sits on the AI map: a hyperscaler is writing a multi-year nuclear offtake that also pays for an uprate. That is the power constraint the build-out keeps hitting. The new megawatts are still a 2030–2032 target.

Limits: uprate not online; $3 billion is plant investment, not Amazon capex; no campus MW in the primary release. No thesis-row status change. On the map, Constellation moves from no targeting signal to green. Amazon moves from gray to green; a prior minor signal does not color the company. Nothing turns red.

What would change the picture: uprate commercial operation disclosed; a named Amazon load figure tied to this offtake; or the agreement failing at relicensing or construction.

What this evidence does not establish

  • Approximately 190 MW uprate targeted for 2030-2032, not online now.
  • More than $3 billion is Constellation’s plant and infrastructure figure, not Amazon spend.
  • No Amazon data-center MW or chip type in the Constellation release.

What to watch next

  • Uprate commercial operation disclosed.
  • A named Amazon load figure tied to this offtake.
  • The agreement failing at relicensing or construction.
