HPE's first AMD Helios order: 1.2 billion dollars from Vultr
On 30 September HPE said Vultr ordered 1.2 billion dollars of AMD Helios AI racks for U.S. cloud data centers. It is HPE's first Helios win.
Hewlett Packard Enterprise said on 30 September 2026 that Vultr had placed a 1.2 billion dollar order for AMD Helios AI Rack systems built by HPE. The racks are for Vultr's cloud data centers in the United States. HPE called it its first order for the Helios platform.
What is in a rack, from HPE's release: 72 AMD Instinct MI455X GPUs, AMD EPYC Venice CPUs, Pensando Vulcano AI NICs, ROCm software, and six HPE Juniper Networking QFX5252 scale-up Ethernet switch trays. That is a full rack-scale stack, compute, networking and software, sold as one system.
On the map this touches two companies. HPE is the systems seller, in servers and AI factories. AMD supplies the GPUs and related silicon inside Helios. Vultr, the buyer, is privately held and not on the map; it appears here only as the named customer in HPE's disclosure.
An order this size is evidence of demand for rack-scale AI systems. It is not revenue until HPE recognizes it, and it is not megawatts of compute online until the racks are installed and powered. HPE did not disclose rack count, delivery dates or power in the material reached. Reuters separately reported that HPE also raised networking growth guidance that day; that forecast is management outlook and is not the basis of any color here.
HPE moves to green on a meaningful company disclosure. AMD stays green: the Helios racks use AMD Instinct MI455X GPUs, and AMD is already green from the World Labs agreement disclosed two days earlier. The compute-and-power condition adds a supporting data point and stays where it was. Nothing turns red.
What would change the picture: HPE reporting when the Vultr racks ship or go live; a cancellation or cut to the order; or Vultr disclosing the megawatts those racks will draw.
What this evidence does not establish
- An order, not recognized revenue and not capacity already online.
- Rack count, megawatts and delivery schedule were not disclosed in the material reached.
- Vultr is privately held; its demand comments are quotes in HPE's release. Vultr is not added as a company.
- Networking growth guidance reported by Reuters is secondary context and does not drive color.
- The Business Wire primary page timed out for the fetcher; quotes are from the syndicated copy of the same release. Share-price moves are excluded.
What to watch next
- HPE's next earnings commentary on Helios backlog or Vultr deployment progress.
- Any Vultr disclosure of live Helios capacity or power draw.
- Further Helios orders from other cloud or enterprise customers.
