Yaskawa reports record orders but cuts its profit forecast after a software switch

Yaskawa, a Japanese robot and motor maker, reported record quarterly orders, driven by data-center and chip funding, but cut its yearly profit forecast.

On 9 October 2026 Yaskawa Electric, a Japanese maker of robots and motors, reported results for the six months to 31 August. Total orders in the second quarter rose 38% from a year earlier and 13% from the previous quarter, to a record, which it linked to data-center and semiconductor-related funding. It raised its full-year revenue forecast to 600.0 billion yen, from 580.0 billion, on continued yen depreciation, but cut its operating-profit forecast to 57.5 billion yen, from 60.0 billion, mainly because of the effect of a new ERP system on production and shipments (Yaskawa results, 9 October 2026).

Why we file it. Record total orders, driven by data-center and chip funding, show demand. The profit cut shows a cost.

How we read it. Yaskawa's own figures: order growth is not an AI-only number.

Why it matters to you: data centers and chip plants are ordering more robots and motors, but a software switch cost profit.

What this doesn't prove

Company's own presentation: order growth is not an AI-only figure.
