AEP says it has 69 GW of contracted load growth through 2030, with hyperscalers and data centers among the customers

AEP said on 30 July it signed another 6 GW of load agreements, for 69 GW through 2030, including hyperscalers and data centers.

On 30 July 2026 American Electric Power said it added 6 GW of signed load agreements in the second quarter, mostly in Texas, bringing contracted load growth through 2030 to 69 GW. It said the customers include hyperscalers, data centers and industrials. A presentation slide splits the 69 GW as 90% data centers, including crypto customers, and 10% industrials, and says AI driven data center demand should be the largest part of retail load growth. GAAP earnings were $713 million against $1,226 million, which AEP ties to a 2025 asset sale and tax timing. We file this because AEP names hyperscalers and AI data center demand in its own words. How we read it: a large utility is turning data center interest into signed agreements, though 69 GW is a 2030 plan. What would change this: agreements that fail to convert, or interconnection delays. Why it matters to you: data center demand, which includes crypto, is being signed up, though ERCOT rests on letters of agreement.

What this doesn't prove

Company results release and earnings presentation. The 69 GW is contracted load through 2030. The release gives no data center share, while a presentation slide shows 90% data centers, including crypto customers, and 10% industrials, and the 45 GW in ERCOT rests on letters of agreement only. GAAP earnings fell year on year, which AEP ties to a 2025 asset sale and tax timing.
