AMD and Anthropic plan up to 2 gigawatts of AMD GPUs, with AMD setting aside up to $5 billion for a share of Anthropic

AMD and Anthropic said on 22 July they will deploy up to 2 gigawatts of AMD MI450 GPUs from 2027, and AMD committed up to $5 billion for a share of Anthropic.

On 22 July 2026 AMD and Anthropic announced a strategic partnership to deploy up to 2 gigawatts of AMD Instinct MI450 Series GPUs in AMD Helios rack-scale systems, with deployment of the first gigawatt beginning in the first half of 2027. The release says AMD has committed to set aside up to $5 billion for a share of Anthropic in the future, and that the two will launch a multi-year engineering collaboration using Anthropic's AI model to speed up AMD software development. We file this because it is a company-confirmed agreement with hard figures. How we read it: Anthropic is adding a large block of non-NVIDIA computing capacity, and its chip supplier is also taking a share of it, though both are future commitments. What would change this: a slip in the 2027 start or in that funding. Why it matters to you: it shows how one AI lab is spreading its chip supply across several makers.

What this doesn't prove

Joint company release. The 2 gigawatts is 'up to', the first gigawatt is planned for the first half of 2027, and AMD's $5 billion is 'up to' and 'in the future'. The release gives no price for the chips.
