Amkor and NVIDIA add a $1.3 billion packaging deal in South Korea as NVIDIA books more supply chain capacity

Amkor says a $1.3 billion NVIDIA deal expands chip packaging in South Korea, taking their agreements to $3 billion as NVIDIA books more capacity.

NVIDIA is stocking its bench before the playoffs. On 21 October 2026 Amkor announced a $1.3 billion agreement with NVIDIA to expand advanced packaging in South Korea. Amkor says its multi-year agreements with NVIDIA in Arizona and South Korea now total $3 billion.

What packaging means. A finished AI chip is several pieces of silicon joined together on a base layer. That joining step, called advanced packaging, is one of the slowest parts of making AI chips. NVIDIA says the two companies are targeting a greater than 300% increase in interposer wafer capacity, the base layer used in that step, by the end of 2028.

What else was announced. NVIDIA said it is giving the chip-testing company KYEC a $1.1 billion capacity reservation advance for new US testing sites, and that it plans to raise substrate capacity for its products by 2.5x over three years. NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang said, "Demand is extraordinary. Capacity is the constraint."

Why it matters to you. The AI tools people use run on chips that are hard to make in volume. When NVIDIA pays partners ahead of time to build capacity, it shows where the squeeze is and how long it expects demand to last.

How we read it. This is a sized, signed deal between two companies on our map, and both name AI demand in their own words. Amkor has had no story on the map until now.

What would change this. Amkor giving the payment schedule, new Korean sites starting on time, or NVIDIA pulling back orders.

What this doesn't prove

Amkor does not say how the $1.3 billion splits between payments from NVIDIA and its own spending, or when the money moves. The 300% figure is a capacity target for the end of 2028, not revenue. The releases do not give the size of the Arizona part on its own. Share-price moves are excluded.
