GF does not make leading-edge AI processors, but its silicon photonics and silicon germanium processes are used for the optical links inside AI data centers, and it has launched a quantum chip foundry service; its CEO cited optical networking in the AI data center as a growth driver in August 2026.
Chip design companies pay GF to manufacture wafers of their chips, often under multi-year supply agreements.
