Firmus withdraws its Australia ASX IPO and turns to private markets

The Nvidia-backed AI data center company says it pulled its ASX listing application, citing market conditions, and will pursue private funding instead.

Firmus says it has withdrawn its application to list on the Australian Securities Exchange. In a company statement carried by CNBC, Nikkei Asia, SMH, the BBC and AAP, the board cited recent market volatility and prevailing market conditions and said the terms on which the offer could proceed would not appropriately reflect the strength of the business and long-term growth outlook. Proceeding, it said, was not in the best interests of the company and its shareholders. Firmus said it will now pursue capital from the private markets and consider alternative public and private market options.

Who Firmus is. Firmus is an Nvidia-backed Australian AI data-center operator whose customers have included Meta and OpenAI. Firmus is not on this map. NVIDIA, Meta and OpenAI are already on the map and are named here only as context. Nikkei Asia said the abandoned offer had aimed to raise up to A$7.9 billion ($5.5 billion) at A$11 a share for a valuation of about A$43.9 billion.

Why we file it. Infrastructure economics asks who pays for AI capacity, and on what terms. After a reported price cut and then postpone plans, the company has now confirmed that the ASX listing application is withdrawn. That is a pulled public equity raise for AI infrastructure, not a rumour. Cloud and specialized compute stays yellow. No company on the map changes color.

How we read it. Minor. Firmus is not on this map, and the statement names no private-round size, lead or new listing timetable.

What would change this. An announced private funding round with size and leads; a new public listing filing or timetable; or any change to Firmus capacity agreements with Meta or OpenAI disclosed by those parties.

What this evidence does not establish

Company statement confirms ASX application withdrawal and a private-markets pivot; it does not disclose private-round size, leads, or a new listing venue. Abandoned IPO size and valuation figures describe the offer that will not proceed. Share-price moves excluded. Secondary Nasdaq-next-year talk is not treated as company confirmation.

What to watch next

  • Any announced private funding round: size, lead investors and close
  • Any new public listing filing or timetable (ASX relaunch or another venue)
  • Any change to Firmus capacity agreements with Meta or OpenAI disclosed by those parties
  • Whether related project financing or supplier contracts are restated after the pull
