Vistra says it has committed up to $1 billion to KKR's Helix fund for AI data centers and power
Vistra said in August it committed up to $1 billion to KKR's Helix AI infrastructure fund. $500 million is tied to power-supply milestones or its choice.
In its 10 August quarterly report and 7 August results release, Vistra said it had committed up to $1 billion as a founding backer in the KKR Helix fund, launched on 11 June with KKR and NVIDIA. The commitment is an initial $500 million plus $500 million tied to the fund meeting power-supply milestones for Vistra's existing plants, or to Vistra's own election to fund it. The report says the fund will seek to put in assets critical to enabling artificial intelligence, including hyperscale data centers. At 30 June the initial $500 million could still be called and the milestone had not occurred. We file this because Vistra's report names AI and hyperscale data centers as the fund's purpose. How we read it: a power producer has pledged capital to an AI infrastructure fund. None has been called and no project is named. What would change this: a capital call or a first named project. Why it matters to you: a power producer is pledging capital to a fund meant to finance data centers.
What this doesn't prove
Company quarterly report and results release. The 11 June launch named Vistra as a founding backer but no amount, the report dates the agreement to June 2026, and the results release calls the whole $1 billion 'initial' where the report calls only the first $500 million initial. The commitment is a limited-partner pledge to a fund managed by KKR affiliates. Vistra does not control the fund. The second $500 million is tied to milestones that had not occurred at 30 June, or to Vistra's election. No Helix project, customer or power contract is named.
