Firmus plans to postpone its Australia IPO and weigh a private funding round

Bloomberg reports the Nvidia-backed data center company plans to delay its ASX listing and is talking to existing and new backers about private capital instead.

A day after the Australian Financial Review reported a mid-bookbuild price cut, Bloomberg reported that Firmus Grid plans to delay its Australia ASX IPO and is considering a private funding round instead. Investing.com's Bloomberg syndication said the company is in discussions with current investors and potential new participants. Order-taking closed Thursday morning as scheduled, with no clear price or deal structure. Deliberations are ongoing and details could still change, the report added.

Who Firmus is. Firmus is an Nvidia-backed Australian AI data-center operator whose customers have included Meta and OpenAI. Firmus is not on this map. NVIDIA, Meta and OpenAI are already on the map and are named here only as context. Bloomberg said Firmus had sought as much as $5.5 billion at a valuation of about A$43.7 billion.

Why we file it. Infrastructure economics asks who pays for AI capacity, and on what terms. At Firmus the buyers were signed; the public equity raise first met weak demand at the planned price, and is now reported as a delay toward private capital. That is the same pattern as other AI infrastructure listings that slowed when public orders did not clear. Cloud and specialized compute stays yellow. No company on the map changes color.

How we read it. Minor. The postpone and private-round plans rest on a major outlet citing people familiar, not a company or ASX formal notice. A Firmus representative did not respond to Bloomberg's request for comment in the same-day book-close reporting. Concurrent AFR coverage describes bankers considering a rework or pull; we do not treat those as final terms.

What would change this. A Firmus or ASX statement that the IPO is postponed, pulled, or relaunched; naming of a private-round size, lead and close; or a prospectus and 23 October listing that proceeds after all.

What this evidence does not establish

Postpone and private-round plans rest on Bloomberg reporting via syndications citing people familiar; Firmus had not matched that with a company statement as of publication. Details could change. No source we found is a formal company or ASX withdrawal. Concurrent AFR precipice and salvage coverage is not used as final price or size. Share-price moves are excluded.

What to watch next

  • Firmus or ASX statement confirming postpone, pull, or a relaunch timetable
  • Any announced private funding round: size, lead investors and close
  • Whether a revised prospectus appears and whether a 23 October ASX listing still proceeds
  • Any change to Firmus capacity agreements with Meta or OpenAI disclosed by those parties
