Energy and the electrical grid

The companies that generate, distribute and manage the electricity AI infrastructure runs on. AI data centers use enormous amounts of power, so the companies producing and delivering that electricity are just as critical to the AI economy as the chip makers.

Every connection below is tied to a readable source, date, classification and statement of its limits. A company source establishes what that company stated. It does not necessarily provide independent confirmation.

ABB owns (sale to SoftBank pending) ABB Robotics

ABB said in its Q2 2026 results on July 16, 2026 that the divestment of ABB Robotics was anticipated to be completed in the second half of 2026, with expected net cash proceeds of about $4.8 billion.

Evidence: Primary-source statement · Owned as of July 16, 2026; sale to SoftBank Group pending

Limits: States ownership only as of ABB's July 16, 2026 results; the buyer (SoftBank Group) is named in ABB's October 2025 divestment release, not this one. Any closing after July 16, 2026 was not checked (ABB and SoftBank news pages could not be opened), so the row must be retired once the sale completes.
